I took Ian's advice that the more and stronger the warnings were on the tin
the better it was likely to be. So I bought a tin like the following, which
has been used for motorcycle seat recovering as well as the soft top hood to
header on quantum and all manner of other contact adhesive gluing
requirements:-

With regard to this stuff going tacky before you assemble it, almost all of
the various glues that I have used require a "tacking time" of only between
1 and 10 minutes before assembly, after which time you have one chance only!
An hour sounds too long.

I have used Dunlop Thixofix to great effect (now no longer available I
believe, replaced by Alpha Thixofix), which allows some repositioning to
gain perfect alignment then when satisfied push hard and it sets. In my
humble opinion, I would not advise using Loctite HD glue as when I used it
with vinyl, it all fell off after a day. Dunelm HD adhesive worked well as
did a number of others long since forgotten but all smelled the same.

Subject: [Quantum Owners] Headlining help!

Hi all,
I've at last (with SVA pending end april) summoned up the courage to
attempt to fit the headlining to the saloon. Having coated the felt-like
fabric with the adhesive using a roller, and then coated the roof in the
same way, I've left it an hour to dry in normal contact adhesive fashion,
and then..... Attempted to put the headlining in position thinking I only
had one chance, and it just fell straight off - no adhesion whatsoever! Has
anyone else done this with the heatresistant adhesive from Quantum, and can
give some pointers. Regards, Martin
