Even for a summer car i'd still keep the heater for cold mornings.
If i understand you correctly it won't work, the connection on the stat
is about the same pressure as that in the inlet manifold so you'd muck
up the coolant flow in the engine.
The only place there is a big pressure difference is across the radiator
so you need the matrix/inlet manifold connection on the pump side of the
rad not the stat side.
There are 3 parallel cooling circuits on the CVH and for that matter the
Zetec though it is more obvious on the Zetec and on the Zetec circuit 2
is blocked off when the stat is open.
1. Radiator: From the pump to the radiator, through the stat and back to
the block.
2. Bypass: From the pump to the inlet manifold and back to the block,
this circuit ensures that there is a minimum flow through the water pump
when the stat is shut.
3. Heater: From the pump to to the heater, then back to the block.
When the stat is shut 2 and 3 ensure there is a minimum water flow
through the pump, without then and the stat shut you can get cavitation
in the pump as it tries to work but can't move and water.
If you don't want the heater then you still need to link the 2 pipes as
a minimum.
You can get the correct hose for your pump arrangement, either that or
change the water pump.

hi all, just a quick 1 (I hope)
ive got a bottom rad hose but it wont fit, I think its because my pump
outlet is angled upwards rather than at 90 deg to the block, so this
leaves me trying to connect the rad to pump using another means but
this leaves the 16mm outlet that would go to the matrix needing
fitting, however I don't have a matrix and don't want one (summer car)
so this would leave me connecting it to the stat housing direct but
then I remembered the manifold connection too
so taking into account no matrix would it be ok to use a universal
flexi from the pump to rad and just connecting the inlet manifold to
the stat housing direct?
it works in my head but my only concern is that the flow wont be being
pumped from the bottom hose directly by the pump to the manifold
on the upside it leaves me with a much simpler layout, your thoughts
please
p.s if ive got the flow a bit muddled up please bear with me, its been
a long day and im sick of looking at hose diagrams, the crux of the
matter is will the car run ok with the manifold connected to the stat
housing? cheers
