Hi Dave

Maybe I should clear a couple of points here.

I do understand that you have a point about the value of these cars,
but the insurance scheme now in place can help with the agreed values,
so to the owner in question it at still be worth it.

The sun roofs that have been fitted to the Coupes are usually either
the electric type or smaller manual versions, to which there are many
in different sizes. Thus with the electric versions now breaking down
with the suplier now gone, they are impossible to repair. Moreover the
manual versions are now prone to leaks after the rubber seals looking
at the UV light from the sun for so many years.
Now we can all
ignore the problem or try to do something about it.
The sun roof from the Mk1 Hatchback is of better design as it does use
a boot seal at the mating point which is very easy to replace. This is
rare to need replacing as it is sheildedfrom the UV rays by the solid
fiberglass sun roof. I do totally agree with you, in that the
retaining hinges are a little kit car ish, and will do my level best
to find a better looking solution.
Please also bear in mind that whilst I agree that the Coupe is of
limited Market, the modifications I offer are often
out of my personel wants for my own cars. I think
it is still the right thing to do however, in offerig these options to
all other club members in order to help them keep thier cars going.
I think that when some of us cross over the line to enthusiast state
cost becomes less of a point to justify and more down to developing
ones pride and joy.
I do also take on board your comments about the interior. In fact a
conversation was held on here some months ago about the door cards,
and the dash has come up many times. I will get round to doing these
items, but just right now I need to get the outside done to try and
avoid winning worst car of the Stoneligh show again !!!!!
