Hi Matthew,

I would very definitely check that you have both volts and earth at the pump before doing anything if it has come off its bracket. This will eliminate searching for a relay problem until you establish no volts at the pump. It is also worth considering putting volts across the pump having disconnected it first with an external battery if you have one to check that it works.

The inertia cut-out switch (Oops! - forgot about that - put it down to a senior moment as I was hooked into the likelihood of carbs on your car!) is normally only fitted to systems with fuel injection and/or ECU but it is usually not far from the ECU if one is fitted - follow the harness back as appropriate.

The pump is separate to the tank on my Q and seems to have come off
its supporting bracket which maywell be a contributing factor although
nothing seems to be out of place, frayed or loose. You were also right
about road dirt - the thing is pretty filthy...

I've also been reading about a fuel cutout switch in the passenger
footwell so I'll be looking at that and the relay you mentioned as the
next things. In all honesty I was looking at just sticking on a new
pump as a quick fix so that I'd still be able to make it to
Stoneleigh. Now I have time to troubleshoot properly as the deadline
is a year away!
