Is there anyone with an Xtreme which has a new or recon differential? I'm wondering if the droning noise I have (particularly on overrun when the diff oil is hot) is particularly bad because my diff is well worn with quite a lot of backlash, or if it's present even with new diffs. That will help me decide how far to go in trying to fix it.
It's a long time since I stripped down my donor Sierra, but I'm sure the front UJ on the propshaft was a rubber coupling. That would have damped any vibration from the engine and made the diff much quieter. Since there is no centre prop bearing on the Xtreme there is no chance to fit a damper, but I'm just wondering how much the noise can be reduced by spending a few bob on a recon diff (and we're talking £500 notes here!), or I should just leave it alone.
