I would call the coppers bluff on this one the cheeky so and so, however he
could check with your insurance if it is not standard and the insurance
company has asked for any mods to be declared, so it could be a no ins
charge!

In our village today a driver was stopped by marked police car and
warned..... His misdemeanour was that his exhaust was too big!. The officer
didn't give him a ticket but said although he didn't consider the exhaust
too loud, it wasn't original so would have to be replaced with an original
part - he has 14 days to replace it or will get a ticket if caught again,
but of course the officer couldn't give an assurance that another traffic
officer wouldn't be so kind!
Surely not correct????
Car is an import Mk3 MR2 with turbo, and the owner has only had it a month
and has no idea whether the exhaust is original or not, or what to replace
it with....... Maybe he'll have to ask a newspaper reporter (oops shouldn't
get political)

I was always told so long as you can hear the horn over the exhaust then
it's fine.
I got my exhaust from long life and they ask you before you start how loud
you would like it.
Mine was actually a bit noisier than I'd hoped however it was spot on with a
turbo to quieten things down. I like to hear something on acceleration and
nothing on cruise.
Wasn't the cheapest at £400 but well worth it as guaranteed forever.

with project coupe over the exhaust sound at MOT. They flagged it
as
too loud. Strangely, this was the same garage that has been
passing
my son's coupe with a stainless magnex single box system year after
year. The MOT test is subjective only - no measuring instruments
required. (or indeed owned by the garage!) At home we both think
they
are the same loudness subjectively. So I am not sure what is
happening there. Think it might be worth getting or borrowing a
meter.
When we looked into it you can retro-fit another box, even a
straight
through in the tailpipe that should make it quieter. So that's a
possible option. On the web there are many custom exhaust
manufacturers with different size and shape boxes. But many will
not
fit well under a Q. You are quite resticted for space unless you
have
it low slung.
By contrast my 2+2 has a standard aftermarket mild steel system.
OK
they don't last as long, (mine has been doing 4 years) but they are
1/3rd the cost of a SS system and have more meat to them so are a
different note and much quieter. It's also a single box system. I
did a DIY fit last time and it was easy.
