I too have suffered from an engine not starting after some minor surgery. As with the other advice ensure that you have the dizzy in the right position so that it is aligned with no1 on the firing stroke (both valves closed).
Mine had an ignition problem caused by the multi connector on the ignition amplifier on the nearside chassis rail. In stripping off the carbs and replacing, I had knocked the connector. It was only 2 to 3mm out of position but it was enough to kill it dead.
