Steve, It's a common problem on Fords in general. Over the years I have had 2 Cortina's, Sierra and several Transits. They have all broken the cable near to the pedal at some time. colin

Mine went a couple of weeks ago about 20cm from the pedal. Having looked into why I think it's a combination of the routing putting a bit of strain on through the bulkhead and possibly catching on a sharp vertical edge internal to the pedal box. I've addressed both, but wondering if this might be a common problem with the Xtreme? Changing the cable was easy, once the steering wheel was removed.
