The problem i always found when looking for alternative Ford brakes for the 2+2 was that on the Mk2 Fiesta the holes in the lugs on the hub carrier (upright) are closer to the centre of the hub than on any of the later Fords. I'm guessing that the Mondeo callipers that apparently fit the 2+2 are probably for a bigger disc and when fitted to a smaller disc the mounting hole line up again. Mondeo parts weren't that common when i built my 2+2, i ended up using 260mm Mk5 Escort XR3i discs and modified Escort RS turbo calliper carriers, but the mods involved welding milling and redrilling the calliper carriers. Later on i changed them to Wilwood 4 pots and 280mm discs and transferred the original setup on my saloon.

The Mk3 Fiesta spacing is the same as the other later Fords so lots of options for brake transplants on the H4

Hi Jim I thought we were talking about calipers?
I know I said that the upright was the same but that was a mistake I actually meant the brakes are the same, however even here they are not as not only is the offset different but so too is the thickness, 24 mm on Sierra and 20 mm on the XR2. I have only robbed these cars of calipers and never noticed the disc difference.
You lads know more about Fords than errrrrr Ford themselves.
Jon back to school!

I'm sure the Sierra upright isn't the same as the Mk2 Fiesta.

Indeed the early MK1 type Mondeo has 4 bolt wheels, hence so will disc and the later 2001 on will have 5 stud fitted. I actually have a Mondeo and have a spare caliper together with a Sierra upright (same as XR2 ) so give me a little time and I willl find out the details. Should be right up my street as I do a Dolomite Sprint vented brake conversion and have done over 70 and Sprints from New Zealand to the States run them and they are based on my own design and using the Ford 239 mm vented disc set up as a base.
Cheers Jon

That is mainly about Mk3 Fiestas. Mine is based on a Mk2. Are they the
same?

Also, there is a comment about Escort RS2000 discs (presumably Mk5
(FWD) not Mk2(RWD)). Does anyone know about that conversion? Is it
easier or better in any way?

Can I presume that all the ST24s are the same, because that model
spanned two models of Mondeo didn't it?

To extend the other thread, which has lost the subject a little.

I seem to remember that it was possible to fit Mondeo front discs and
calipers to the fiesta hubs, to get bigger brakes.

Does anyone know the details? i.e. which model/year of Mondeo and
what, if any machining is involved?

Are the rears left as standard, or do they need upgrading to preserve
balance?

Dave
