Im feeling rather pleased with myself today since after 2 hard days
graft ive finally got both halves of my car back as one, the POR15 has
done a great job setting to a rock hard finish, I refitted the
steering rack using some special flange headed bolts and nuts to
hopefully eliminate the issue I found before with the holes leaking in
water, now they are sealed with underseal and a wide head either end
so I hope this issue will now be a thing of the past,
Onto the car itself, I realised some time ago that the sub frame
assembly was sat higher than the body shell

so some adjustment would be required to bring them to the same height,
I did think about chocking the body but thought better of it, so I
bought 2 pairs of spring clamps and compressed the springs enough to
bring the sub frame and shell to the exact height,

it took a fair bit of arsing about since a couple of turns on the
spring compressors meant a tweak on the jack which in turn meant a
couple more turns on the spring compressors and so on but in the end
(and much to my amazement) I had it located so all 6 bolts just slid
through the holes with no resistance at all, not bad since they are
12mm bolts through 12.5mm holes
then it was just a task of checking I had enough sikaflex (2 tubes)
and going for it, what followed was about half an hour of up down left
right inside outside and back again while I fitted all the bolts and
got plastered in sikaflex, and bearing in mind I was working alone
trying to torque the bolts was a bit of a mare involving some abuse of
spanners,
there were a few casualties, once the dust had settled, namely my arms
were now black (despite wearing overalls and gloves??) and my head
also, I also nearly knocked myself out on the front tie rod and got
sikaflex on the passenger seat, but it was all worth it

I used special flange headed nuts and bolts again to spread the load
better and prevent the washer dishing in,

I think the stainless 10mm thick ones should be ok but still they got
the flange nuts

And the new 6mm thick 12mm steel washer look more convincing now too
on the engine side

To round things off I even fitted the steering column and my home made
seal

And modified the pedal box as per the most recent build manual to have
the support bolt up to the scuttle

Overall id say its been a good weekend
