Don't know if this is of any use to anyone or if anyone would care to
comment but have had some clutch pedal issues recently with the bite
point being very low and possibly not fully disengaging....were
advised to change the auto adjust quadrant and pawl and were given a
new one....on removing the pedal box, couldn't find anything wrong
with the old one but changed it anyway but did notice that the cable
radius in the quadrant was smaller.....anyway, fitted the new one and
tested it without noticing much difference but when out the following
day, new adjuster failed completely and clutch wouldn't disengage at
all....kept having to fiddle with the adjuster to get it to stay in.
Decided to investigate a bit more with a view to trying to bodge some
kind of manual adjustment but on re-fitting the old bits and having a
look at what was going on decided it was worth trying to change the
point where the auto adjust operates by filing the tab that knocks out
the pawl as it looked like it had already been hacked previously.
Took a couple of mm off the tab and stop which effectivly means the
pedal comes up a bit higher (now to the same height as the brake
pedal)....net result when re-fitted is that the bite point is now a
bit higher than it was which was the object of the exercise and gears
seem to engage better, presumably because the clutch is now fully
disengaging.
Does anyone have any comments....is it normal or necessary to modify
the adjustment point tab
