Yes indeed my 2+2 has an Escort turbo lump installed and has a flexi joint
alongside the engine and I have owned and thrashed this car for 2 years now
and nothings broken..............................yet!

Totally unsure if the XR2 is similar to the 1.1 mk1 but i had issues
with basic downpipes splitting within a few months below the manifold
clamp.
shopping around i found one the same as my rusted out unit that had a
strength collar just down from the manifold of 3 or 4 inches held the
manifold clamp captive.
Worth a consideration.
