Hi Paul
What engine do you have in your car ?, if it's quite a high spec then the builder might have fitted a fast road or even race spec clutch, these have a very sharp biting point.

The different quadrants's basically change the range of the clutch travel and how heavy the pedal is by having different depths of groove in the quadrant. The deeper the groove the less cable movement you get but the lighter the pedal is. (think thats the right way round). The black quadrent has the shallowest groove so gives the most clutch travel which is why it was fitted to compensate for the carpet behind the pedal on the 2+2. The other mod i've seen for this is washers behind where the pedal box bolts to the bulkhead.

There are also 2 lengths of clutch release lever (the bit that fits on top of the gearbox) on the later IB5 gearboxes which can be used to change things even more.
And a manual adjuster conversion using parts from a Mk3 Fiesta clutch pedal.

Hi all, new to Quantum ownership & owners club but am seeking some advice on my 2+ clutch issue. I purchased my 2+ 2 in January after wanting one for a number of years & this was also going to be my daily driver (approx 200 miles per week), I had viewed several cars but despite some of these being quite nice they were not quite right. I spotted mine on Gumtree & after a viewing it was deemed to be perfect, one owner from new (18 years), fitted with virtually every extra from QSC the list goes on. During the test drive I noticed the clutch pedal was lower than the other pedals & had very little travel with a very low & sharp biting point, the owner told me it had been like this since he built the car so I thought I would used to it...but I can't & it's impossible to obtain a smooth pull away & gear change which has really spoilt the whole Quantum experience! I looked at several Fiesta forums & have since replaced the clutch cable with no difference, I then had the quadrant & pawl replaced (a red one was used) & although all pedals are now level it is still a pig to drive & no real improvement. There is some clutch judder when pulling away, worse when cold so I'm having the clutch replaced but I did notice an article in the latest club magazine about a modification required to the pedal assembly & the use of a black quadrant, I plan to pass this useful information to my mechanic & hope & pray he can fix. I checked the build manual I got with the car & it is dated October 1993 Version One & there is nothing in there at all about the pedal box so assume there has been a version 2 manual? My 2+2 is number 74 so quite an early car although it was purchased in 1994 in kit form & completed in 1996. Has anyone else experienced this issue & if so some advice for me to pass onto my mechanic would be very, very much appreciated especially a tried & tested theory or alternatively I would be more than happy to pay someone who has already carried out this modification to carry this out on my car...anyone based in Norfolk? Otherwise a fantasic car (well nearly, very bumpy & leaks like hell) which ticks all the boxes a car should for my requirements but if I can't sort this clutch issue I'm going to have to sell as can't cope with that on a daily basis! Thanks for taking the time to read this & hope to hear from some of you very soon. Paul.
