Thanks Jim I know its strange that I have rebuilt most mechanical things but
electrics...........oooh black magic.

I also bought a superb Porsche 944 recently and it is like a time warp machine
being almost perfect...............however about once every 100 starts, it does
not fire or make any attempt to go and due to that its a worry you might get
stranded. I suspected the imobiliser on this too and took your advice Jim and
traced the wires to a horrific sight! All the wires were not soldered or even
Scotch blocked, they were all just wrapped and taped up, perfect if you want
fires and unreliability, I just find it hard to believe the stupidity of some
people. I soldered and shrink wrapped all joints and it started and ran like
clockwork.
We shall see after 100 starts if I have solved the problem.

The Quantum was used to get me to work this morning after the Porsche decided
to be work shy, its funny but the Porsche is like a willing shire horse that is
very stable (pun intended) and the Quantum is like a firecracker both exccelent
cars for different reasons.

I will give the imobiliser one last chance and the next problem with it and out
it comes.

Cheers Jon

  Hi Jon,
Basically, yes, it's just a case of following the wires (probably all black)
from the alarm back to where they connect into the loom.
If the wire taps into an existing uncut wire then it's probably a power feed
or output for flashing the indicators etc.
If the wire connects directly to an existing cut wire then it will probably
be part of the immobilisation circuit, and there should be another alarm wire
connected to the other end.

If it's been installed properly the wire that's been cut for the immobiliser
should have a section missing so the cut ends of the wire won't be next to each
other.
But in practice this is rarely done.
Usually you will also find most of the connections are done under the
steering column shroud, again, just where they shouldn't be done.

I expect the immobiliser circuits will be the starter and the power to the
ignition coil.

Let me know the colours of any wires you find tapped into the alarm and i
should be able to tell you what the circuit is.

  Jim

Hi folks I am sorry as my wife and I were booked in too and to have missed
all this as first the 2+2 decided to eat another pink petrol injection relay
and stop dead! then to add to the misery once I got a new relay and running
again my key fob that is a Clifford alarm and imobiliser broke the solder that
holds the battery in. This happened in a busy garage while getting fuel, so in
to the rescue came my trusty old Mondeo to tow it home and sort it out as the
alarm howled away.
I hate imobilisers and would ask. Does anyone know if I will have any
trouble disconnecting it from the loom? Is it just a case of trace each wire
and remove it and reconnect original using solder not hateful scotchlocks?
Your help will be most useful as electrics are not my strong point.
    Cheers
    Jon

Seconded (albeit a bit late - sorry!)

Not the best time to discover your bonnet hasn't latched properly -
Braking from 80mph to turn into the pits...! Oops!

Does anyone know if Haynes have got their track back up and running yet?

      Dave.

A big vote of thanks to Vince and the guys of the CDMC for laying on

Kermit behaved well and put up with abuse from myself, Michael and Guy.
Personally I really enjoyed exploring a new piece of grass due to a spin just
before the 'B'. Running without a windscreen was 'interesting'... Good on the
track, but tiring for the journeys.

And its good to see that Vince laid on glorious weather again!
