Well I never did get around to doing this job and the other day my Quantum decided to imobilise and set off the alarm and this time no key fob was going to stop it! My insurance has a get you home so I got them to take me to a local car ICE shop and they removed the whole shooting match for £50 and now it starts and stops with no alarms and problems. It turns out it was all wired and the control box located right up inside the dash and my old back would not have liked that. Thanks for the help though Jim it was invaluable when doing my Porsche 944 because that had an alarm imobiliser fault that was due to wires just twisted and taped..................I soldered them = no problem now.

If the wire taps into an existing uncut wire then it's probably a power feed or output for flashing the indicators etc. If the wire connects directly to an existing cut wire then it will probably be part of the immobilisation circuit, and there should be another alarm wire connected to the other end. If it's been installed properly the wire that's been cut for the immobiliser should have a section missing so the cut ends of the wire won't be next to each other. But in practice this is rarely done. Usually you will also find most of the connections are done under the steering column shroud, again, just where they shouldn't be done. I expect the immobiliser circuits will be the starter and the power to the ignition coil. Let me know the colours of any wires you find tapped into the alarm and i should be able to tell you what the circuit is. This happened in a busy garage while getting fuel, so in to the rescue came my trusty old Mondeo to tow it home and sort it out as the alarm howled away. I hate imobilisers and would ask. Does anyone know if I will have any trouble disconnecting it from the loom? Is it just a case of trace each wire and remove it and reconnect original using solder not hateful scotchlocks? Your help will be most useful as electrics are not my strong point. Not the best time to discover your bonnet hasn't latched properly - Braking from 80mph to turn into the pits...! Oops! Does anyone know if Haynes have got their track back up and running yet? Dave. Kermit behaved well and put up with abuse from myself, Michael and Guy. Personally I really enjoyed exploring a new piece of grass due to a spin just before the 'B'. Running without a windscreen was 'interesting'... Good on the track, but tiring for the journeys. And its good to see that Vince laid on glorious weather again!
