Can you take some pictures of the roof above the door and where it meets
the door glass and the windscreen surround.
We might be able to advise more if we can see it.

Apparently dad fitted the MG boot strut to my sisters saloon and it
worked fine, it's just that my car has a pair of gas struts already
fitted but they are not man enough to keep the lid up, plus dad has
just fitted a solenoid operated boot mechanismn and wanted the boot to
rise when the switch was operated.

old MG, and the 2+2. Now got a mohair / double duck (cannot
remember which!), This will not shrink. My solution was to put
rubber strips as per for sealing to door fram on the top of the
windows - this helped, and also waterproof seat covers inside with
a chamios leather to dry them with ;-)
With regards to the struts, I have got a 'lift and click' one from
an MG Midget.
