Thanks Jim,

The bonnet was made by me using thin MDF over the engine and chassis andthen lining with plastic to make a male dummy from plaster which I finallymade a mould for the damn thing..................it took me ages because Iwanted to keep it as low as possible as wife is only 4ft 11 tall andstruggles to see when she track days some cars.Nose is Tiger and mudguards are non specific from a Scots moulders off Ebaythe alloy is hand formed by me.I have changed my mind over what to call it and it started as a JJ NS (noscreen) then Gatto (Italian for cat) then Nero Un Gatto (black cat) but Ihave actually decided to call it a Warp10 for obvious reasons Scotty!Time is what I wanted to waste after a family tragedy nearly brought us downand getting lost in a project is a way of surviving.

MX5,s really are fantastic for a kit car because all the bits are so goodand upgrades such as brakes and I have an LSD in it are all available.I was not able to have the seat adjustable so made a whole pedal set to suitmy wife who in her day job is a qualified driving instructor but shows signsof lunacy by marrying me and driving track days.

Just as a footnote as part of my wifes 60th Tiff Needel does high speed runsround Thruxton mostly sideways at 140 mph in a 400 bhp BMW M3 and namedropping here but Daughter Rebecca knows him so we had a chat and he tookthe mickey out of my Quantum .............he had never heard of one before.I can highly recommend his trip for someone who likes thrills, plus not manymen can thank another man for making their wife smile for a ride.----- Original Message -----From: "Jim Hearne" <[email protected]>

That's very impressive.
Did you make all the fibreglass panels as well or were they off another kit.

The MX5 seems to be quite a useful donor, if only i had more time...

Yes indeed I agree that a special is not a kit and mine is not either.
Practical Performance Car magazine,s owners brother had an early MX5 which
he set out to make go fast and the magazine then had a series of articles as
they got close to 180 bhp by means of an Aquamist water injected intercooled
engine fed by a turbo installation by HSK using a piggy back ECU. In this
guise the car went well and the owner had a bespoke chassis designed and
built by RBR racing fabrications who made a car called a Cyana.
The rolling chassis sat in his garage for a couple of years until I bought
it off Ebay and turned it into the pictures you see, however getting it
through IVA took 2 goes and emissions were difficult.
The weird thing is that I have done over a 100 miles in a car that I built
and nothing got loose or leaked or fell off! I have gone past 2 speed
camera,s and 2 police cars with no number plate completely legal because the
law says you can drive it to and from an IVA test centre to see if its safe
to go on the road LOL. (also can be driven to a repair facility).

Well this is what it looks like and with 180 bhp weighing 650 kgs I reckon
0-60 4sec and a ton in 10 I already have found its damn fast and sure
footed.
I am now waiting for Swansea to issue a number.

My understanding of a "special" is something built from scratch rather than
a kit.
But i could be wrong.

I have just completed my MX5 Lotus sevenesque special and passed IVA and
that has white dials and you can read them from the other side of the
garage.
Just waitng for Swansea to issue a reg no.

Unscrew the two halves of the dash pod, then one at a time take out a big
bulb, put your finger in and push off the blue/green lampshade thing.
When they have all gone the dash will be better lit.
Fitting a white dial kit will also help.

All my dash lights are dull and hardly visible, any cures?

They're just 501 types. You can get LED replacements but I always seem to
break them or put them in the wrong way so stick with bulbs instead

If youve got that the green tint it comes from a plastic dome inside the
clockset that comes out either with a screwdriver or by removing it
carefully giving white light instead of green
