Hi Glyn

There is a fusible link (two in most versions of lhe loom) concealed in the
loom in the feed from battery positive to the un-fused ignition circuits
(and in the feed from battery positive to the rest of the electrical
equipment). They provide "last resort" protection in the event of crash
damage or chafing or a major component failure causing a short to earth
upwind of user-replaceable fuses or in an un-fused circuit. One is between
the starter and alternator and the other is in the positive lead quite
close to the battery, It sounds likely that the latter one (at least) has
failed. Those links are usually 100% reliable and will not fail unless a
*very* high current has passed. So you might have a major short. But just a
thought - is there any possibility the new battery is the wrong type, with
terminals the other way round so that you have connected positive to
negative and vice versa? That would certainly blow the fusible link(s).
Hopefully you have not done that because it would very likely do other
damage.

You need a multimeter and someone who knows how to use it...

Hope that helps
Bill
