Thanks for the info Martin.  Especially about the Vinyl.

I would like the material to be easy to sew, but realise you will make some 
mistakes!  I have a Chinese Singer copy I got cheap & new (ACE 5618) - it works 
very well.  I have made a cratch cover for my narrowboat out of waterproof 
backed polyester canvas.  That proved easy enough.  It has worked out well in 
use and you do wonder why so many boat and car products are different for what 
is really the same function. The two industries cannot even agree on steel 
rust-proofing or treatment!  I will have a look at some coloured Mohair as that 
sounds analogous.  If that proves easiest to work, great.  

I did look at a glass rear window with heated screen, but have come around to 
the idea of a very large wrap around rear window for better vision overall.  
You can even get the window plastic in green tint like the glass windows.  But 
still planning at present.  I am trying to get Part Time at work, that would 
make the project’s progress leap forward!
