I have an alert for Ford master cylinder running on Ebay, and I'm pretty sure
it came up with seal sets a few days ago. I've not paid much attention to the
search lately, having bought a new master cylinder a short while ago. I bought
the master cylinder (short one for '87 XR2) from Mister Auto, after much tooing
and froing........... They said a couple of times it was in stock, then it
wasn't and they quickly refunded, and some emails later I bought it from their
European store and it eventually arrived, cost was under £80. So it may be
worth trying Mister Auto for the master cylinder you require. (but you may have
to persevere)

Hi all, my 2+2 has just failed it's MOT due to a spongy brake pedal, after
some investigation it appears the master cylinder seals are shot & as such is
filling the servo up with brake fluid.
I have searched virtually everywhere for a service kit but have been told
that these are now extinct for the later (1988 > 1989) XR2 so my car is now
sitting at my mechanics in bits whilst alot of head scrathing is taking place.
Someone told me that a non ABS Mondeo set up could be used although
considerable work is required to fit this & the bar running along the bulk head
needs to be made adjustable to enable the brake pedal to be adjusted but this
seems to be more work than I'm willing to investigate further, has anyone else
had this problem with a late XR2 based Quantum & if so how did you overcome
this or does anyone know where a service kit could be obtained from or does
another service kit from a different manufacturer fit?
Seems totally crazy that such a simple part from an 80's Ford cannot be
obtained & makes me wonder how both MK2 XR2 owners & kit car owners are keeping
their cars on the road if such simple service parts are no longer available?
Any help with this will be very, very much appreciated.
Cheers, Paul.
