Thinking at a tangent..... would it be possible to machine an adaptor that can be mounted on the outside, yet still achieve the correct position for the sensor?

Sorry Nigel, the automatic crank sensor mounting is different to the
manual.
The sensor is the same but the aluminium bracket it fits into that then
fits into the hole in block is quite different.
And, of course the bracket is fitted from inside the bellhousing.

Have rebuilt an engine for my zetec xtreme, but cannot get it started. The Omex ECU is not seeing the CPS signal. Have checked all wiring, sensor and signals. Have put an oscilloscope at the ECU end of the wiring and although getting a signal of sorts it is very noisy. I finally decided to check the flywheel holes line up with the sensor hole and it seems there is about 2 or 3mm offset.

Now the question. The new engine is from an automatic. Flywheel etc from my old engine. Can anyone tell me conclusively if the automatic CPS is in a different position to the manual one. A bit if googling indicates it is, so looks like engine out again. Ouch.
