My Canon HV 20 HDV camera works just fine via FireWire as an input to
Quartz Composer. Appears as "HV 20" in the input device menu. Output
does lag (as all HDV cameras do) and frame rate was fairly low
(~15fps) on my MBP 2.33.
I do have Final Cut Studio 2 installed, so this might not work for
everyone. That said, I tried this on an older PowerBook with Leopard
but not FCS2 and the camera was recognised (HV 20 appeared in the
menu) but didn't show an image. Further testing, anyone?
The HV 20 is a great camera if you're looking to break into HD, by the
way -- shoots 1080p with cine gamma and is cheap (~AU$1500).
Cheers,
Iain.

Hi,
I want to use live HD video input in my compositions. I'm running
Leopard. I'd like to know what my options are.
From my research it appears that IIDC cameras work, but I'm not sure
about HDV cameras, and AVCHD cameras. Also there are conflicting
reports about whether the Decklink Intensity HDMI input card works or
not.
I'd appreciate any information that people can share about ways to get
live HD video input.
Thanks!

Then, vade added:
HDV cameras do not have a public input component that other
applications can tap into via quicktime like regular DV cameras. I
have no idea why this is. FCP / iMovie and Avid all have private
methods to deal with this.
