possibility of creating a (set of) custom patch(es) that offer
some of the capabilities that are offered by AR Toolkit.
eg a patch that has an image input for a camera image and one
or more image input for a tracking target patterns on one side,
and a series of orientations/positions/transforms of found
tracking targets as outputs.
Sounds like an interesting project. I couldn't do it (yet,
anyway).
OpenCV, available from kineme.net, seems to be the closest
thing, though it does something that is quite a bit different.
