This is an oldy, but I just had it pop in my mind for some reason (actually,
a Rick Mann post on another list)...

You can use the Color Mixer. That allows you to mix between two colors, it
gives a mixing point, and it also gives interpolation curves. I use this
quite a bit to make something fade from one color to another smoothly when
an event happens, as opposed to breaking a patch down to numeric RGB or HSL
components and smoothing that.
