The related issue is this: what if node1 lost GPS signal too? (all caravan entered a grotto). Would then ntp.conf line:

The first question would be do you need to do anything special at all.
You only need that sort of solution if you are going to get extended
outages. For normal outages, the system will coast along with
relatively little divergence from true time, or that of other nodes.
