Linda, Welcome to the group! Don't feel bad about using frozen and canned produce. Where I live it's hard to get good quality fresh produce year round, and my tree-covered yard with clay soil hasn't been too good for gardening yet. Fresh is definitely better though, so if you can get some things canned that will be great! Do you have any farms near you which sell produce, or even a CSA you can get produce from? That would help until you get the garden established. Michelle in VA
