Although this works, I think he meant something like pressing a middle c
and the c above it, then being able to varry the pitch of one note, or the
volume of one note, and keep the other constant. All I know is put each
individual harmony in one channel and then save as the type of midi which
makes all channels become one. Can't remember the type number, since I
always just use whatever it was when I created it. I can always do a
channel split later if I need to re-edit.

There are several ways to do this with MIDI, but which one's best will
depend on exactly what you want to do and the capabilities of your
equipment. Below are a few possibilities and I hope some are of use.
I'm not going to give precise instructions on how to do all this, but you
can use the Progression Tool, the Event or Controller editors or plain
Record with appropriate realtime knobs or sliders on your keyboard if you
have them.
1. Pitch bend can be used to vary a note while it is playing.
2. Aftertouch can vary pitch, add vibrato, increase volume, or perform
any other effect that has been configured in the particular sound you are
using on your keyboard.
3. Exression (CC#11) can be used to vary the relative volume of a note.
4. Modulation (CC#1) can be used to add certain effects, mainly vibrato.
