Which version of windows do you have.
XP Pro
What is your computer's configuration, processor, ram, etc.
Not quite sure on processor. I think I've got 1 GB of ram. I used to have Cake
Walk Sonar installed, and I had no problems just using that as a midi output
device, but it never did work beyond that.
What type of sound card do you have?
I use a m-audio card but am using creative midi drivers as midi out but that
isn't written in stone. M-audio outputs are so plentiful I didn't know what to
pick, if you need the list I'll send it along. Just picking one of the outputs
won't work. To be honest I think the problem is more with creative now, but I
don't have any more info about it so I can't say for sure what it may and may
not be. Tomorrow I'll play a bit more with the Acio, since M-audio does have an
acio driver, at least one comes up in the outputs.

I have not yet configured QWS to use synthfont as a softsynth because I
wanted to make sure I was satisfied with Synthfont's midi input first. While
playing my midi keyboard in QWS (it's an old yamaha psr540), it works fine with
the microsoft synth, but it's very slow (I think that's pretty normal). No
buffering issues or anything. Then I load up synthfont, set the default
soundfont to synthgms, which is the font that comes with it, click on midi
input, and even with buffering set to max in the options I still am hearing
clicking noises and there's a very noticeable lag in midi events. I'm not using
Acio, because I don't know what it is and I don't think it helped any. I do
have a newer keyboard from last year. Would that fix these problems? Is there a
setting I may need to adjust to fix this?
I should also mention that Synthfont itself messes with all audio coming
through the soundcard, though adjusting the buffering in the soundcard does
minimize it.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
