Well, although I believe it worked for general audio, every time I tried to
use it for midi playback and midi output I got nothing. I would be stuck
using some Creative drivers which I don't know what they were or where they
came from.
BTW, I don't really like Creative cards anyway.

I would still personally recommend m-audio's Delta series, even with the
accessibility issue of the new drivers. You can always use the old ones
(they
are still easy to find), and the new ones are rock-solid ,if you don't
mind not having access to a few things quite so obviously. I don't know
much about
their fw line.
Maybe even an Emu 0202 or 0404 would work for your needs, although it,
also, has an inaccessible control panel. But, for basic things, you won't
need to
change much, if anything anyway.
I wonder though, what were your previous m-audio-related issues?
