Maybe a good command line tool for playing sounds (aiff aifc wav mp3  
ulw au snd mid m4a m4p) on a Mac can be found here:

http://www.hieper.nl/html/play.html
After downloading you can copy it to e.g. /usr/local/bin
and do setWavPlayer("play").
