Mike :
Nice analysis ; your observations all make sense. Still, there is another
way
of looking at the situation. But let me emphasize the fact that your views
are perceptive. Ultimately there need to be solutions for complicated
problems and anger is anything but good enough.

However, you can look at this in a positive way. The OWS movement is
a start. It is also a barometer and, as such, has its own value.

Regardless, in both the Tea Party and OWS we are looking at the
consequences of :
( 1 ) a mass media that is an utter farce in terms of service to the
public.
The media educates people to almost nothing, it often misinforms people,
it inculcates sick values, and it dumbs down nearly everything. This being
the case, while there are more factors to put onto the balance,
what does anyone expect from the public except poorly informed
reaction ?

( 2 ) two systems of thought that are based on ideologies that should have
been flushed down the toilet decades ago, or longer. Namely, Economic
Marxism
and laissez faire free trade horse manure. The flaws in each should be
obvious
to one and all. That this is not the case is due to # 1, above, and to
vested
political interests which promote their respective obsolete economic
worldviews.

The task, as I see it anyway, is to foment a desire for objectivity in
economic theory.
Any idea how to do this ?

Billy

My annoyance with OWS is directed more toward the Marxist element of
the movement, which is just using a down economy to peddle a known
failure. It's not much different than how the Tea Party repackaged
libertarianism with evangelical elements and turned it into a
movement. There's nothing new here.

Unlike a lot of these countries with large scale protests and
demonstrations, we actually have a system of government which allows
constructive change, so it's disappointing that these protesters
insist on keeping up with this "we're angry and have no new ideas"
charade rather than doing something productive. Do they actually want
me to sympathize with brute anger that exists without a sense of
reason? Anger is easy. Solutions are hard. Protesters went the
easier route.
