The key value of Twitter for me is: - getting real time notices of when people whose opinions I care about post something new (to a lesser extent, it also provides a back channel to comment / converse on that content) - see what people in my larger sphere are talking about / reading, to minimize the "echo chamber" (and vice versa) As a semi-public space, Twitter enables a different kind of discovery and discussion than elsewhere.
