Actually, I would agree with an even stronger version of that: government 
exists to solve external problems by creating internal problems. :-)

Unfortunately, once you start down the road of civilization, there doesn’t 
appear to be any offramp. In order to survive, you have to keep on tackling new 
problems, but the price is greater and greater internal corruption. 

If we disagree about anything, it is that you appear to wish we could just cut 
back or stop growing. 

My perspective is that we need a fundamental reset; not so much less 
government, but a whole different conception of what government is. That 
transcends the complexity rather than denying it…
