short answer is no. You're just fine using mysqueezebox.com. If you want to play your own music, our use many of the 3rd party plugins, you'll need the SbS. But for straightforward internet radio, podcasts, pandora, etc., you don't need the server running. Even if you install the server, you can switch back and forth to mysb.com if you want. You're not locked in.
