If it works at all then the necessary port numbers are open. Most home firewall/routers operate by simply permitting return traffic on any port to which an inside computer made an outgoing connection. You wouldn't want to completely open incoming connections to the ports used by Squeezebox Server to the outside world or it would mean that anyone could connect to your Squeezebox Server.
