Yeah, it probably is quite different than Roku designs.  
But then controlling SBS (which in turn controls your players) gives
you much more control and customizations.

Even when using the players IR remote, most player functions are SBS
controlled.  So IR input into the player simply sends the request back
to SBS, SBS performs the function, sends the result pack to the player.

You should be able to use the Bonjour service (or something like it) as
well.  Try http://PCname:9000
9000 is just the media server port SBS uses for access, control, player
communication, remote communication (like your laptop), etc....
