This is another one of those unfathomable issues. 

It should be a very simple matter for a company to count how many
pre-orders they've got. 

They should know how many items are in the shipment of inventory when
it arrives. (Actually, they should know that before it gets to the
warehouse.) 

Why would they send emails to people giving them a ship date if the
numbers don't match? 

Or, if they've chosen to sell the incoming stock to new purchasers
instead of the pre-order customers, why - again - would they chose to
send those pre-orders an email with a ship date? 

What's the point of pre-ordering if it only means you are moved to the
back of the queue and will then have your nose rubbed in it?

Some of this stuff is simply inexplicable.
