I think you summarized quite well how a good stripped down verion would
look like.
I'd add one restriction (for the start):
- 'only one alarm time' (adjustable for certain days of the week). This
maybe would make it easier to cope with 'I hit snooze and now its the
next alarms time'-scenarios.

I miss:
- (for the start) fadein of the mp3 .
- (for the second release) I'm a Radio fan. I didn't want to wakeup to
the same tune every day. Which means you had to support starting a
server stream (and watching that it wouldn't stop). Maybe one could
avoid the SB-server and directly connect to a stream. In the end (for
most streams) the Radio always streams directly from the source (I
think).

Problems to expect:
- the server might want to 'take over' the audio system which you just
used locally. When rebooting, on network failures ... always expect a
'stop'-command ;) ...
- if there is already a stream playing when an alarm starts: you 'take
over' the audio system yourself without the server knowing - so again
the server might try to get control back.

I'd wait until logitech publishes its Roadmap for the next release. I
still have a fading glimpse of hope that they'd put alarm functionality
on their list. Maybe you should ask Mickey directly (under disclosure to
prevent a new long thread here) how the current official priorities for
alarms are.
