This is a good summary and exactly the way it works. The alarm is stored on the server you are connected to when you set the alarm. This server also needs to be on/reachable at alarm time otherwise the fallback alarm will sound.
One note: with the new firmware 7.5.1 the Radio sends a WakeOnLan to the last server 5 minutes ahead of the alarm.
