Just thought I'd let everyone know how I've addressed an issue with my
Squeezebox Radio's terrible wireless problems. I was about to return
it due to constant dropping of the connection, inability to reconnect,
and just general crappy wireless drivers, when I decided to
troubleshoot it from inside.

Unfortunately for me the Squeezebox uses the same MAC address for both
wired and wireless connections (that's got to violate some spec
somewhere), so I was unable to simply login and play with the wireless
connection without manually changing the wired MAC. What a PITA.

Anyways, my radio was losing its connection within 2-3 hours every
single time I got it to connect. Most of the time I couldn't get it to
reconnect without cutting power and trying again, sometimes a dozen or
more times. Even with the wireless AP 3 feet away it refused to
connect. I enabled remote access via SSH and logged in to play with
things. I've noticed that if I leave a window open from my desktop to
the radio constantly running 'top' to display running processes the
radio will stay connected to the wireless network. It's been 2 days
now and it hasn't disconnected yet, even in an area with a much weaker
signal. I run 'top -d300' so it only refreshes every 5 minutes.

If this continues to work my next step will be to install a script to
ping the network regularly so I don't have to stay logged into the
device. My only worry is that it will be automatically overwritten by
firmware updates. The device doesn't have a normal cron directory so
I'm afraid to trust that if I create one it won't be deleted.

It would be nice if I could trust this device enough to actually use
the alarm feature, but with this hack I still don't. I'm kinda
surprised the various Squeezebox daemons running on the device don't
keep the link up themselves.
