Correct, no transcoding on MySB.  But MySB is not needed at all under
certain conditions.
Example:  If your Radio is connected to SBS and you select a direct
stream URL to a station then MySB need not even be online at that
moment (down for maintenance?), and that stream will play fine.

VBR?  Variable Bit Rate?  I can't imagine why that would have any
playback issues of a properly formatted stream.
If I remember correctly the mms issue has more to do with how it is
presented.  These players use the http format for streams so mms format
streams confuse the players.
I believe one workaround was to email the station and request that they
simply check a single box in their streaming software to use http format
as well as mms.
When the player connects to the stream it can then pick the format that
is compatible to that player.

Again, bpa is the real expert on this whole issue, and I may be
misrepresenting (or forgetting) the details of the mms playback issue.
