Actually the fallback alarm should be fading in (what firmware are you using on the Radio ?).
One also has to know, that the "sound effects" are also streamed from MySqueezebox.com (which might not be the most reliable streaming service around). I suggest to either use - a different alarm time (one or two minutes off your current time) - a different alarm tune (either try a radio station indeed, it might be more reliable.
