My 9 year old boy has a radio in his bedroom, and he thinks it's
brilliant. However, there are some points you should possibly consider.

In our house, we already had a couple of booms,an sb3 and a duet, so he
was already familiar with the system. As we also have a couple of
smartphones with squeezecommander/ipeng installed, there are always
plenty of ways for him to search for music if he wishes, rather than
using the controls on the radio. Searching for music on the radio
without a remote of some description
can be a bit tiresome.

Also, you should probably subscribe to a music subscription service
such as Napster/Spotify, and install the relevant plugins on LMS, as it
won't be long before their musical tastes diverge from yours, and they
won't be content with the music on your server.

Finally, as MeSue says, you will need to maintain the server etc etc.
The better you get to understand the system yourself, the more fun your
kids ( and you) will have with your squeezeboxes
