Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I never managed to get my radio to update itself to any version. The closest I got was after a factory reset it got to around 40% downloading an update and then crashed and restarted itself with a 'sorry your device had to restart after a system error'.
I ended up installing LMS 7.7.1 (same as what's on the problem radio) on my NAS, so at least it doesn't keep pestering for updates now.
