Ultimately had to do a complete factory restore and restore default
settings.  Now the alarm is working correctly, with a snooze button. 
Unfortunately, when I reset the settings, it got rid of the setting from
its days as a Squeezebox that assigned the sleep function to the mute
button.  Argh!  Looks like I'm going to try and restore the radio back
to the Squeezebox firmware so that I can have both an easy way to sleep
(you can't even assign the sleep function to the main menu with the UE
firmware) AND the ability to snooze the alarm.
