I hadn't even considered that Logitech would receive a revenue share
from services like Spotify going through its servers.

It made sense to me that they would want power and control, but to what
end, I couldn't fathom. Of course it would be money. The puzzle
completes itself.

For some reason I don't like Spotify. I hang strongly towards owning and
controlling my own collection. I admit that the cost of listening to new
music is higher - in terms of effort required. But I think digital music
should be free, a donation service, so to speak. Artist donates music;
you donate money. It's not a world we live in, I can't help that. I
wouldn't mind buying some credit to purchase a few hours of listening,
but these services want your subscription and your loyalty. I took a
month of Last.fm subscription some weeks ago, but I lost interest
already. After the first day. On Bandcamp.com you can listen to albums
for free.

It's a different world right. I don't consider it natural to pay money
as some sort of tax for the right to listen to music. It's like an
oxygen tax; required for your right to breathe. Taxman by the Beatles
comes to mind. If they could, they'd tax your use of the hammers you
own. And they'd try to sell you a hammer that would only work with the
nails sold by the same company, and require you to sign a user agreement
that would subject you to penalties should you try it.
