I was frustrated, too, when I acquired my first Squeezebox. I am not a
techie, but I searched the forum for answers to issues similar to what I
was experiencing. If I couldn't find a thread that was directly on
point with whatever problem I was dealing with at the time, I asked the
question myself, providing as much detail regarding my operating
environment and the errant behavior. Folks here have always been polite
and helpful.

One by one I fixed the issues. I have had a remarkably steady system
now for 4-5 years. Most of my problems were network related, and if
you're on a wireless network, you may learn as I have that nothing will
stay stable for long. Too much competition for airspace. All four of
my SBs are now wired or on powerline devices.

The other thing that I've learned to do if my system becomes unstable is
to clear the cache. After a year with no issues, I started having
buffering problems, random skips to the next track, etc. I messed
around with routers, power line adapters and even replaced a few "old"
ethernet cables, to no avail. Once I remembered that I hadn't cleared
my cache in ages, I immediately did so and the system started working
fine once again.

None of this may be relevant to you, but I thought I'd share some of my
own long-ago frustrations that I eventually fought through to get a
system that is now very reliable for me. I'd invite you to do the same.
