The password problem is probably related to the bug in some way, as I'd
guess that some of the same routines are being called. The whole LMS
password protection thing seems a bit wonky overall, and I had problems
even after getting it connected properly. The setup is pretty simple in
this case:

(router)---(switch)---------------(NAS) .200
.1 unmanaged (RADIO) .5
(some other stuff)
.stuff

[ router is providing DHCP addresses only, and all ports inside the
firewall are open to each other. ]

I had originally envisioned streaming outside the network, but that
didn't work as the connection simply couldn't support it. Eventually, I
removed the media library from the NAS box and simply used LMS as a
streaming media (think Shoutcast) system to supply audio to the Radio
units. I noticed that even that wasn't working well, as the last
Synology DMS4.3 version of LMS has some sort of weird memory leak that
only showed it's head after I deleted the media library. I removed it
from the box altogether and now run it on a RPi B1, which gives me a
more up-to-date version and returns the web interface at least 2-3x
faster. I'm sorry it took so long to thank you pippin, but knowing there
was a bug somewhere forced me to try some other things, which did work.

One final note, when I moved LMS from my NAS box to the RPi, I had to do
a factory reset of the Radio units to make them forget the
password-protected server.
