I did that, and then a little wisp of smoke emerged from the radio with a smell of burning so I think it's now beyond doubt that the radio at fault. The circuit board looks far too congested and fiddly to repair any failed components, so probably my best bet is a replacement radio via ebay - unless anyone has a better idea for a radio-like client using raspberry pi's, etc?
