I don't believe the chips are failing in the sense that they are wearing
out or becoming damaged. But the chips and software are failing to
handle increasingly complex signal environments coming from increased
WiFi usage starting early this year 2020. For more information, read the
posts in the developer's 'Community-Build-Radio-Firmware'
section of this forum. And it is not just the Squeezebox radios
suffering from this issue, other recently manufactured devices operating
on the congested 2.4 gHz band are affected, although yet others don't
seem to be.

One theory for the failures that has not been completely dis-proven has
to do with peculiarities of certain modern wireless routers / access
points or their configuration (e.g., beam forming, etc.). I am
interested in your experience with the Netgear product. In one post, you
wrote that the Squeezebox radio didn't maintain the wireless connection
to the EX3700, and later that you have had no trouble. Is this
encouraging news?
